How to Recycle Electronics in New Jersey
The State of New Jersey has enacted New Jersey’s Electronic Waste Management Act (N.J.S.A.13:1E-99.94 et seq.) that requires manufacturers of covered electronic devices (televisions, portable, desktop or personal computers, computer monitors, desktop printers, and desktop fax machines), whose products are sold in the State to participate in a recycling program. Manufacturers, either individually, or as part of a group, must establish, conduct and manage a plan to collect, transport and recycle covered devices. Reverse Logistics Group Americas (RLGA) provides a group plan in compliance with the Electronic Waste Management Act.
The Act also requires that costs to recycle CED’s shall not be passed on to NJ consumers. Eligible consumers include any person, small business enterprise, State entity, school district, or local government unit.
Consumers in New Jersey can return their CED’s at no charge by searching for the nearest drop-off location using the map below. A full list of collection sites can be found on the NJDEP’s webpage here.
Consumers who are not able to bring a CED to a collection site, or consumers with a bulky (50 pounds in weight or heavier) and/or unwieldy covered electronic devices, including, but not limited to, flat screen televisions with screens greater than 40” measured diagonally, and projection televisions, may contact RLGA to arrange for a no-cost collection from their residence at (866) 337‑1078.
