The State of Hawaii has enacted the Hawaii Electronic Device Recycling and Recovery Law. The law requires manufacturers of covered electronic devices, whose products are sold in the state, to register and participate in a recycling program. Covered electronic devices are consumer computers, portable computers with a screen size greater than four inches measured diagonally, monitors, printers, facsimile machines, videocassette recorders, portable digital music players that has memory capability and is battery powered, digital video disc players, digital video disc recorders, routers and/or modems designed for household use, and televisions with a viewable screen of nine inches or larger. Electronic device peripherals are also considered covered devices, and they include a keyboard, mouse, cords used with an electronic device or other electronic device peripheral, power supplies and adapters, speakers used with a computer or television, television sound bars and video game consoles.
