February 18 is International\u00a0#Battery<\/a>\u00a0Day, and this year the battery turns 221 years old. Nowadays, it is impossible to imagine modern life without the many small and large accumulators.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The battery began its triumphant sweep in the mid-19th century in the form of the lead accumulators. Then, at the end of the 20th century, lithium-ion technology revolutionized the battery world. The new type of batteries was first used in video cameras, laptops, and smartphones before it was introduced in electric cars about ten years ago and subsequently made a significant contribution to the rapid upswing in e-mobility.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

To make the diverse applications of batteries sustainable, secure scarce resources for key technologies, and prevent unnecessary environmental pollution, we must further develop innovative collection, return, and recycling processes and establish closed recycling loops for battery materials.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
