Guide to Canadian Federal Plastics Registry (FPR)

Guide to Canadian Federal Plastics Registry (FPR)

Canada has enacted the Federal Plastics Registry (FPR) as a crucial step in understanding and addressing plastic pollution. If you’re a manufacturer, importer, or distributor of plastic products, understanding your reporting obligations is essential for compliance.

What Producers Must Do

All producers are required to submit detailed annual reports, and the first-ever reporting deadline is September 29, 2025. These reports must include key information, such as resin sources, product categories, and methods of end-of-life disposal. Accurate data collection and documentation will be critical to fulfill these requirements.

By preparing today, you’ll ensure that all reporting is completed and submitted by this date to stay compliant with the Federal Plastics Registry requirements.

Why Accurate Reporting Matters

Timely and accurate reporting positions your business as a leader in sustainability and environmental responsibility. Failure to comply with the Federal Plastics Registry can result in penalties of up to $500,000 for large corporations.

Becoming compliant gives you the opportunity to:

  • Align with the Zero Plastic Waste Strategy
  • Demonstrate your commitment to sustainability
  • Gain a competitive edge in Canada’s environmentally conscious market
