Performance Review 2024: REBAT Back on Track for Growth
- In 2024, both placed-on-market and take-back volumes increased, following a slight decline the previous year.
- Gross collection rate reaches 54.5%
- REBAT’s 2024 performance shows that the system is well prepared for the planned increase in the collection rate in 2027
Aschheim/Munich, May 6, 2025 | REBAT, Europe’s leading take-back system for portable batteries, reports solid growth for 2024. After a slight decline in the previous year, both the volumes placed on the market and the quantities collected have increased again. A total of 17,198 tonnes of portable batteries were collected – a clear increase compared to 2023.
Once again, REBAT exceeds the legally required collection rate of 50%, reaching a gross rate of 54.5%. Due to the voluntary transfer of 450 tonnes of recycled material to a market competitor, the net collection rate remained strong at 53.3%, marking another year of improved performance.
REBAT Continues to Grow – Producer Confidence Rises
More than 10,000 producers are now part of the REBAT. In 2024, they collectively placed 30,036 tonnes of portable batteries on the market. At the same time, REBAT’s take-back network continues to expand: With over 65,500 active collection points, portable batteries are collected and returned efficiently across the country.
“Our continued growth proves that REBAT is powered not only by robust processes, but also by the trust and confidence of the industry. We are confident that we will meet the 63% collection rate planned for 2027 – thanks to our committed system partners and the ongoing expansion of our network,” says Andreas Kröniger, Executive Vice President of RLG.
